Macadamia Nut and Chocolate Bars

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus one tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 4 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped macadamia nuts


  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Grease an 8-inch baking pan.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and salt. Mix together.
  4. Cut in the butter.
  5. Blend the beaten eggs into the flour. It will form a soft dough. Set the bowl aside.
  6. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the remaining tablespoon of brown sugar in the water and the corn syrup. Dissolve the sugar. Set aside for 15 minutes to cool.
  7. In a large bowl, combine the cooled syrup, dough, chocolate chips and 1 cup macadamia nuts. Mix together.
  8. Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining nuts over the top of the batter.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes. It will be firm to touch.
  11. Cut into 8 portions to serve.
