Cake Ingredients:

5 Eggs

3 Egg yolks

2/3 cup sugar

3/4 cup cake flour

6 tbsp cocoa (unsweetened)

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda
-
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Syrup Ingredients:

1/3 cup water
-
1/2 cup sugar
-
3 tbsp cherry liqueur
Filling and Frosting Ingredients:

1 1/4 cups cherry pie filling
-
3 tbsp cherry liqueur

1-pint heavy cream (whipped)
-
12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (shaved)
Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350F degrees

Grease 3 8-inch round cake pans

In a medium bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar until thick and light.

In a medium bowl, sift flour, cocoa, baking soda and baking powder.

Slowly fold the flour mixture into the egg mixture. Once combined, add vanilla.

Separate the liquid batter into three prepared pans.

Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Bake until center springs back after touching it. Let cool completely on a wire rack.

While cakes are cooling, in a small saucepan bring water and sugar to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, add the cherry liqueur.
