Decadence Cake

Yield: 1 Cake


  • 2 cups cocoa powder

  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

  • 1/2 pound semi-sweet chocolate

  • 1 cup butter

  • 6 whole eggs

  • 1/2 cup bourbon


  1. Preheat oven to 325F degrees.

  2. Lightly grease and flour a 5×9-inch loaf pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper.

  3. In a small bowl, sift the cocoa powder and place it aside.

  4. In a separate small bowl, sift the sugar and also place it aside.

  5. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and butter together over low heat. It will become smooth. Set aside.

  6. In a large bowl, mix the eggs on low speed. Do not whip them, just blend them.

  7. Add the sugar and bourbon to the egg mixture. Mix well enough to blend. Add the cocoa and mix just enough to blend.

  8. Add the melted the chocolate and butter to the egg mixture and mix enough to incorporate. Blend for five minutes. Do not whip.

  9. Pour the mixture into the loaf pan and place in a water bath. Bake for 1.5 hours. Cool completely and remove from pan. Serve with powdered sugar and whipped cream.
