What you will need:
-
3 1/2 – 4 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
-
1/3 cup light corn syrup
-
1/3 cup softened butter
-
1/2 cup teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
Food coloring
-
All-purpose flour (to knead)
-
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon raspberry/lemon/orange/almond extract
-
Optional: Licorice string
-
Optional: Miniature chocolate chips
-
Optional: Decorative candies
Instructions:
-
In a large bowl, sift the confectioners’ sugar.
-
Mix in the corn syrup, butter, salt, vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.
-
On a clean cutting board, sprinkle confectioners’ sugar. Place the dough and cut it into three pieces.
-
Knead the dough until smooth and soft. You do not want it to be sticky. I had to add a bunch of confectioners’ sugar to make it less tacky. Wrap up all three balls.
-
On a clean surface, sprinkle flour. Take one section of the dough and add food coloring of your choice. Knead until the color is fully mixed into the dough. Continue with each section and a different color dye.
-
Take a small piece of your dough and hand shape your bugs. Remember you can use mini chocolate chips for spots, licorice for tongues and cutouts to get desired shapes. Have fun with it.
