What we will need:
-
1 1/4 sticks unsalted butter
-
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
-
1 tsp baking soda
-
4 eggs
-
1 3/4 cups packed brown sugar
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
a pinch of salt
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
Let’s make these beauties.
-
Preheat the oven to 375F degrees.
-
Grease and flour a 9×13 baking pan.
-
In a medium bowl, sift and whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla.
-
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add the sugar and mix. Note: the first time I tried to make these I thought the sugar had to be melted. Nope, just add it, mix it and continue on with the recipe. The picture above shows the difference between the two.
-
Add the dry ingredients to the butter saucepan and mix well. Remove from the heat when well mixed.
-
Fold the egg mixture into the main mixture.
-
Pour the batter into your 9×13 baking pan. Smooth out the batter to make sure it cooks evenly. Bake for 25 minutes.
-
Remove the pan from the oven when you can stick a toothpick in the middle and it comes out dry. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
-
Use a Mickey-shaped cookie cutter to cut the shapes out. Mine came out so dry and had I really had to push to get the cutter through them. Like really pushed on the cutters with all my might.
-
Add sprinkles on top and serve.
