Ghirardelli’s Turtle Brownies

Ingredients Brownies:

  • 2 eggs

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • ½ cup butter (melted)

  • ¾ cup Ghirardelli Sweet ground chocolate and cocoa

  • 2/3 cup unsifted flour

  • ¼ tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts

  • 1 cup Ghirardelli Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Ingredients Topping:

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup

  • 3 tbsps water

  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 ½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions Brownies:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F.

  2. Grease and flour an 8” square pan.

  3. In a medium bowl, stir together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla.

  4. Into the same bowl, stir in the melted butter.

  5. In a large bowl, sift together the ground chocolate, flour, baking powder, and salt.

  6. Combine both bowls together and stir well.

  7. Into the bowl, add the chips and nuts.

  8. Place mixture into the prepared pan.

  9. Bake for 20-30 minutes.

  10. Cool completely.

Instructions Topping:

  1. In a 3qt saucepan, bring to boil the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. It will turn into a golden caramel.

  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and slowly stir in the cream and vanilla.

  3. Stir in the pecans.

  4. Pour the mixture over the cool brownies and spread the mixture out evenly.

  5. Let cool on a wire rack until the caramel is formed.
