Ingredients:
-
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
-
1 cup sugar
-
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
-
1 (17.3-ounce) box (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, thawed
-
Powdered sugar
Instructions:
-
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, strawberries and lemon juice. Using a potato masher, mash the mixture until the berries are soft and the sugar is melted.
-
Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a roiling boiling. Keep stirring the mixture until it becomes thick. That should take about five minutes.
-
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pastry with flour and roll to smooth the creases.
-
Spread 1/3 of the strawberry mixture over the pastry.
-
Roll out the second pastry and place it on top of the first one. Press down carefully to seal the two layers.
-
Let chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 400F degrees.
-
Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
-
Cut the pastry into 1 1/2-inch strips.
-
One at a time, slowly pick up each piece, twist it three times and place it on the baking sheet.
-
Bake for 20 to 22 minutes. The puffed pastry will turn a golden brown.
-
Let cool for 12 minutes before cooling. Dust with powdered sugar.
Note: The remaining strawberry mixture can be refrigerated for up to 5 days safely.
