I’ve mentioned it before but we want this site to be something different. Yes, it’s filled with Disney content. It’s what we love. Disney is awesome! But, there is so much you can talk about with regards to Disney, why only talk about three or four topics? So I have an idea.
In the beginning, we made a few promises to you guys and we intend on keeping them. We will always be honest with you. Life isn’t perfect and neither is Disney baking. If we burn it, drop it, forget about it while watching tv… we will let you know about it. This site isn’t about lecturing you or forcing information your way. It’s about a couple of Disney fans sitting around a virtual kitchen talking about the places and sweets we love.
Today let’s start with an awesome recipe from Contempo Cafe at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort. If you love Black Forest Cake, you’ll love these. They are the exact same thing… well in cupcake form of course.
Ingredients Cupcakes and Chocolate Cherry:
-
10 Jumbo-size chocolate cupcakes (or you can use 20 regular-size cupcakes)
-
1 can cherry pie filling
-
1 bottle chocolate shell ice cream topping
-
10 maraschino cherries
Instructions Cupcakes and Chocolate Cherry:

-
Bake cupcakes as per the package or according to your own recipe. Let the cupcakes cool completely.
-
Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
-
Place the cherries on the prepared baking sheet. Freeze for a minimum of 30 minutes.
-
In a small bowl, place the chocolate topping.
-
Working quickly, roll the frozen cherries in chocolate and place back on the parchment paper. Place back in the freezer to set.
-
Once the cupcakes are cooled, cut a 1/2 inch circle in the middle of the cupcake. Remove in one piece. It is easiest to cut into the cupcake forming a triangle. Save for later.
-
Fill the cupcake holes with the cherry filling. Place the cutout upside down on top of the filling. The flat side pressed again the filling. The peak will face up.

Ingredients Buttercream:
-
1/2 cup butter room temperature
-
1 cup vegetable shortening
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
2 lbs powdered sugar
-
8 tablespoons milk
Instructions Buttercream:
-
In a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, cream together the butter, shortening, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
-
Alternate add icing sugar and the milk until they are all mixed in. If the icing is too stiff add more milk, and if it’s too liquidity add more icing sugar.

To assemble.
-
Frost the cupcake starting from the bottom edge of the top working your way around the cupcake all the way up to the peak.
-
Place the prepared chocolate cherry on the top
-
Using your hands, press chocolate shavings around the bottom edge of the cupcake.
This cupcake tastes exactly like it should. Sometimes cupcakes will have a name but taste only remotely like the name. This one is exactly what you expect. Black Forest Cupcake goodness!
Enjoy you guys! Happy baking everyone!
