Mickey Brownies

Hello Beautiful Bakers!

So I just finished working out in my state of the art home gym. When I say fancy, I mean it holds the best elliptical Walmart sells. Yes, it may rock side to side but that just adds to the magic. Also don’t forget the random boxes we store in that room too because it’s the only place to put them. Jealous yet? I know it’s hard not to be.

Now that I have finished my workout (translate to bitching and complaining about how the machine hates me), I thought I would reward myself with some brownies. I burned some calories so why not? Ok, yes the brownies might have three times more calories than what I burned but that’s not really my issue. That sounds like a discussion between the Brownies and science. I’m not getting involved with that.

I hopped on Disney Family and found a super simple brownie recipe that I have all the ingredients for. If you have been reading the site for a little while, you will know that’s my biggest requirement… do I already have the stuff to make it? Luckily in this instance, I do.

What we will need:

  • 1 1/4 sticks unsalted butter

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 3/4 cups packed brown sugar

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Let’s make these beauties.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375F degrees.

  2. Grease and flour a 9×13 baking pan.

  3. In a medium bowl, sift and whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.

  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla.

  5. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add the sugar and mix. Note: the first time I tried to make these I thought the sugar had to be melted. Nope, just add it, mix it and continue on with the recipe. The picture above shows the difference between the two.

  6. Add the dry ingredients to the buttered saucepan and mix well. Remove from the heat when well mixed.

  7. Fold the egg mixture into the main mixture.

  8. Pour the batter into your 9×13 baking pan. Smooth out the batter to make sure it cooks evenly. Bake for 25 minutes.

  9. Remove the pan from the oven when you can stick a toothpick in the middle and it comes out dry. Let cool completely on a wire rack.

  10. Use a Mickey-shaped cookie cutter to cut the shapes out. Note: Mine came out so dry and had I really had to push to get the cutter through them. Like really pushed on the cutters with all my might.

  11. Add sprinkles on top and serve.

I thought the sprinkles were pretty for the picture but since they are added when the brownie was done they don’t stick to it.

Disney also states in the recipe that you can make a bow with candy melts that have been melted into the shape of a bow over wax paper but when you put it on the brownie it’s going to do the same thing as the sprinkles.

Overall this brownie turned out exactly like the picture. My family is more of a fudge brownie crew and will probably just keep making the Sprinkles Bakery version because it’s exactly what we love to make.

Happy Baking Everyone!
