Pumbaa & Timon’s Candy Green Grubs

Hi beautiful bakers,

Today I participated in a Disney Trivia show that’s going to be released on Sunday. Let’s just say your girl needs to watch more Disney films. I did do well on the food section and that’s what’s really important. It’s all about the food in our tummies.

I thought because of that we could make some simple recipes from Disney films. They are just little recipes that would be fun for a Sunday afternoon.

Do you remember in The Lion King when Timon and Pumbaa were showing Simba how to find grubs to eat? I thought it would be fun to make some edible grubs. Well, the kind humans eat at least.

What you will need:

  • 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup

  • 1/3 cup softened butter

  • 1/2 cup teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Food coloring

  • All-purpose flour (to knead)

  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon raspberry/lemon/orange/almond extract

  • Optional: Licorice string

  • Optional: Miniature chocolate chips

  • Optional: Decorative candies

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, sift the confectioners’ sugar.

  2. Mix in the corn syrup, butter, salt, vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.

  3. On a clean cutting board, sprinkle confectioners’ sugar. Place the dough and cut it into three pieces.

  4. Knead the dough until smooth and soft. You do not want it to be sticky. I had to add a bunch of confectioners’ sugar to make it less tacky. Wrap up all three balls.

  5. On a clean surface, sprinkle flour. Take one section of the dough and add food coloring of your choice. Knead until the color is fully mixed into the dough. Continue with each section and a different color dye.

  6. Take a small piece of your dough and hand shape your bugs. Remember you can use mini chocolate chips for spots, licorice for tongues and cutouts to get desired shapes. Have fun with it.

Now go out and make the boys proud! The grubs may not be “slimy yet satisfying” but they sure are fun!

Happy baking everyone!
