Hey, happy bakers!

I’m currently starving. Ok, maybe not starving. My husband says I need to stop exaggerating my level of hunger. He likes to remind me that some people are actually starving in the world and I’m just hangry (angry because I’m hungry). He’s probably right but I’m not going to tell him that yet.

I’m having a very small procedure done at the hospital tomorrow and I need to refrain from eating solid foods for just under 48 hours. As I write this I’m currently drinking the beef broth. My husband, on the other hand, just said he had to run to the store but I’m pretty sure he is secretly eating a slice of pizza down the street. I don’t blame him. Pizza is delicious.

Since I can’t technically eat anything (beef broth isn’t eating to me), I thought I would share something I made a couple weeks ago but never got around to sharing; Disney’s Famous Funnel Cake!

While I didn’t get this recipe from an official Disney source, let’s face it, for the most part, Funnel cake is Funnel cake. There are some better than others out there but for the most part, it’s pretty close.

Disney makes a thousand different kinds of Funnel Cake. That basically means they put different toppings on it. This recipe is going to be for the basic version. The one you will find across Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Who doesn’t love a Funnel Cake?! These are so easy to make!

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ tbsp. baking powder

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • ½ tsp. salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 ½ tbsp. sugar

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  • Vegetable oil

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, vanilla, and milk together. Mix well.

  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder. For many recipes, you can get away with not sifting but I wouldn’t skip that step here. It will make the world of difference. Fewer clumps equal a better batter here.

  3. Slowly add the dry ingredients mixture into the wet ingredients mixture bowl. You have to do it slowly so it doesn’t come flying back at you when you start mixing. Making sure to stir well. The batter should be smooth.

  4. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil.

  5. Prepare a plate with paper towel to drain excess oil off the fried funnel cakes.

  6. Using a funnel or ladle, slowly pour batter in a circular motion over the oil. You want to create a spider web effect. Creating the batter is so easy but this part takes some practice. My first one is always awful, but the second and third is much better. Do not get frustrated if the first one doesn’t work out. I still get mad but that’s beside the point.

  7. Once golden brown, flip the funnel cake over and fry the other side.

  8. Place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

  9. Place on a plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Note: Most will give you the option of whipped cream and strawberries.

Like I mentioned in the instructions, mixing the batter is easy. Creating the Funnel Cake in the oil will take some getting used too.

Now go out and make the world famous Disney Park Funnel Cakes. Let us know how they worked out too. We might even feature you on the site!

Happy Baking Friends!

    1. Once I found this recipe we made it way too much. It was sooo much funnel cake. Delicious and awesome… but way to much funnel cake for two people in a week.

  1. I work there and the funnel cakes are made at Stage Door Cafe next to The Golden Horseshoe NOT at GHS.
